The utter generosity of the poor humbles us. They give rice to every mendicant even when their rice is getting over. That is what they are defined by.

Gavaramma
Children are shapeing a goddess, gavaramma, of cowdung. This godess has eyes of eggshells, eyebrows of tangedu stamens and teeth of tice, and is wrapped in a white cloth dipped in turmeric and placed on the bed of flowers. They children pray to her every evening after lighting a lamp on the flower tray, throoghout the month of sankranthi, and sing and dance in a circle around the plate placed on the ground.
