Far from the madding crowd, and far from glass walled restaraunts there exist spaces. Where for
Xavier Dias and not tax lovely!
Aparna Krishnan yes, we exist in spaces beyond tax also. Except for the sales tax on every matchbox that gets passed onto us, I suppose !!
Prakhar Prakash Great place to eat. No uncomfortably cold due to AC. And then if you have some extra time, lie down on the khaat outside and relax !!
Vijayalaxmi Jeyasingh Thallu vandi kadais in cities offer similar treats at similar rates. Govt. canteens are also i expensive.
Aparna Krishnan But in a city rich people will not eat there. In a village these are the only hotels available !! A simple and natural equalizing happens.
Sivakumar Hari நாளை சிவாவிற்கு வசதி வந்தால் கண்டிப்பாக glass walled restaurants க்கு போவார் அல்லவா... வசதி வரும் போது மாற்றம் தானாக வரும்
Aparna Krishnan I am talking of societal frameworks. there are rich people in a village, but they also eat here, because these are what exist. That levels. Of course one can put up glass walled hotels here and create the city madnesses everywhere.a reply...
ஸ்ரீராமதாஸ் மகாலிங்கம் City has every dimension. But for the real estate cost, you could sneak in somewhere like this. People who already have land and infra, can afford at such rates. Ya, there is exhibition of gluttony that we don't normally find in town and villages.
Aparna Krishnan My interest is only to search for structural realities that can anchor a sane society. My understanding is that a village can give us many clues. The post is only that far and no further.
98/- ruppees me, my daughter, my husband, Siva who drives the auto and Venkatesh, our neighbour in the village ate a filling breakfast of 5 idlis and 2 small vadais each. These are spaces where Siva and I sit with equal comfort and claim, and despite all other differances the fundamental equality is accepted.
A city has lost these spaces where common human equality, sans all patronizing, exists. Even in its imagination.
It is in such spaces that many answers we ache for can be found.
