"The most visible participation was by the Muslims, almost every mosque seemed to have opened its gates for relief work."
Chennai floods.
Chennai floods.
Monika Sethuraman Reddy Visible participation??? To whom visible ? What we want to see , we see. Even at times of calamities. I saw participation from all community , visible !
Aparna Krishnan ma, when a community is hounded, refused homes to rent saying they could be terrorists, suspected of terrible motives - then when they work shoulder to shoulder risking life and limb, I think we owe a mention of that fact also.
Raghunandan Tr Could not have explained more comprehensively, more pithily. A high five from me for you, Aparna.
Zakeena Seethi In the dangerously polarising atmosphere we are in, news about common muslims helping hindus and hindus helping muslims etc are welcome.
Zakeena Seethi No one claims that every single muslims in every nook of India are discriminated. I have never been discriminated. But my daughter has been, when she and her friends went hunting for a house in Bangalore. No, they never mentioned about their food habits, just a plain refusal when their names were told. Untill then they were very pally and positive.
It happened not once but many times. But i dont hold the owners of the house to be guilty. It's the mistrust each community has for each other. It is the fear of the 'other' that we need to work on.
As a keralite, i can vouch that it doesnt happen like this in Kerala. May be the general awareness has to have something to do with it.
I feel having one language for people all religions also important. Language many times divide people. In mangalore each religion and cast has its own language, and i dont know if there's a connection but this place is a boiling pot of extremism and intolerance.

Uma Shankari don't stir murky waters. Muslims don't need your patronising charity. They did as much as other communities are doing.
Aparna Krishnan Uma Shankari, it was not intended as patronising. They have been unfairly harassed many times, and one also needs to mention a clear cut situation as this when it arise,
