NIOS as a board is well structured for those who consider stepping out of mainstream schooling, and would like to take exams privately. Our daughter took her 10th with NIOS, and is now taking her 12th papers. Physics, Chemistry, Maths, English, Biology.
One can take the papers in smaller sets, and space out the 12th exams. It also allows time for what one is most interested in. Our daughter went on with her Sanskrit learnings through the Sanskrit Bharati levels, and now the Chittoor levels.
It more importantly this learning pace allows time. Just time. To be.
It also allows one to step out of the rat race.
To us, most importantly, it created the much needed village space. And that village life and living. Which was to us far more essential that any school learnings.
At the same time, this is not to suggest that this is appropriate for all. If one is urban, where every child is in school, it can be challengeing to ensure company for the child. Also this needs a certian home support and so is inappropriate for first generation learners whose parents cannot help or guide. The state has to provide a good schooling system, non negotiably.
But if one is seeking it, NIOS has been a good board for us. IGCSE is the other board where one can take exams privately.
