A Customer Speaks On Masks - Kriti Bharadwaj

A gift from #Paalaguttapalle.

Almost a month ago, I texted
Aparna Krishnan
that I wanted to buy few masks from the Paalaguttapalle team. She excitedly told me that they are sending over a bunch and it's a gift. A gift. Villages are very generous in giving away gifts and there is obviously no arguing with AK. I yielded, and forgot about it.

I received the package two weeks later, as promised. These heartfelt gestures and human connections have been keeping us all afloat this year, and it brightened a particularly difficult week of mine. Nevertheless, local businesses and rural livelihood demand our urgent attention today.

The masks are colourful, comfortable and of both kinds- strings and elastic. They came in a cute little string bag with their branding!! I have been wearing them every day since and made a mental note to thank the team and pester my friends to buy from them, but life kept getting in the way. This is a late post, but here it is, urged by the heart wrenching visuals of protesting farmers and the freshest low that our institutions and elected governments have reached.

The women of Palaguttapalle have braved great adversity in the face of drought and poverty. Their story has been covered by media on various platforms. It is a story of resilience, perseverance, generosity, grit and community care. The year 2020 has highlighted the importance of adaptability beyond everything else. From being farmers to becoming tailors, from stitching bags to making pickles to crafting masks- the women Palaguttapalle demonstrate how to kindle light in darkness. Please follow their story, and for orders contact
