This is a post that should have come first. And yet I waited. There was too much to write, and I did not know where to begin.
Krishnan N Subramanian and Gowri Gopi of YellowBags have been the pillar for the PaalaGuttaPalleBags team. With them from day 1, four years ago. At every step.
From sourcing material, to sourcing industrial machines. To guidance on screen printing to advice on where market. To clearing each stumbling block with his infinite time and patience.
Despite his own cloth bag efforts Theyellowbag, he has refused to see them as competitors for the same market.
"The women of PaalaGuttaPalle are also our responsibility. There is space for all to grow", he said when i asked him once about this.
The village follows the facebook page.
Roopa, "Krishnan saar came home, is it ?", she called and asked the other day. I has posted a picture with him. She wanted all details.
He and @Gowri have not yet come to the village. But they are well known in the village. The women, since they started their efforts four years ago, have been guided, mentored and supported by them at every turn. They know that.
Yesterday both the bag groups were at the Dakshinchitra exhibition. And Krishnan brought many potential customers to the PaalaGuttaPalle stall. To show them the bags that Rani and Lakshmikantha had brought.
The simply generosity is his trademark.
My daughter remarked, "Even when customers were few, he brought them to our stall, unconcerned about his own sales ...". Rani, "He beleives that we should all sell and grow together."
Thank you Krishnan for keeping the essentials in place for us all. And for raising the bar.
