First comes ethical living

Purchasing choices based on ensuring a livlihood for the poor would be (should be) a far firmer basis than purchasing choices based on style or even physical comfort.

Many friends have switched to wearing only handlooms after knowing of the travails of the handloom weavers and have sustained it for decades now. Many buy only from local vegetable vendors rather than air conditioned supermarkets. Many only cycle or take buses to reduce the petroleum drain.

It is out total failure in not communicating to our next generation the superiority and even greater elegence of such choices over the more mundane choices based on immediate comfort and on a mob mentality of following current fashions.
