Gandhi and the Dharmam of a Village

Of Gandhi it was said, "And none that passes him can escape the spell, and men of common clay feel the spark of life." - because he demanded that of people !

And in my village I see that people, the poorest and the hungriest, have in them the strength to put goodness before life and hunger itself. To feed every hungry person who stops at their hut, even through times of drought.

To that strength and goodness in them Gandhi reached out. The poor were not just 'needy' to him. He demanded from them also the highest morality and got them. Because their own concept of dharmam matched Gandhi's demands based on the same dharmam. Both fundamentally Indian.
