Village vignettes - Muggu

Every morning in every home the mud floor is sprinkled with cowdung, and the most beautiful creations made. And decorated with red mud or turmeric or kumkum. During the month of Sankranthi, my neighbour, Ramila used to stick in incense sticks and the scent would waft down the road. Or she would put a lit oil lamp in the middle.

Processes that contribute to slowing down, to beauty, to creativity, to a reverence for earth and for cowdung.

Processes that focus attention and admiration on this creation, and then whether the home past this is of concrete or mud does not matter.

Ruralize.
