Village vignettes - Dhavani

Village traditional dress is becoming a 'nightie'. Worn day and night by the girls and younger daughters in law. It costs only 100/-, but its such a pity.

When the village girls came in dhavanis, looking bewitching, for the June Gangamma festival, to cook pongal together at dusk on little firewood stoves near the little stone deity, Guruvaiyya said, "Now this is how you need to look. Other times you wear that funny thing, and go around looking like bats (reiguva) flapping their arms.'
