Village vignettes - Local health practitioners

Boobamma (a local corruption of Bibiamma) is in Ravanaihgaripalle, 7 km away.

There are two-three Boobammas, and they are the local child specialists. They used to come from village to village with their bag of locally prepared herbal medicines, and colds and fevers and stomach disorders used to be treated by them, as also general health building.

In the last few years they have stopped coming, and I went to Eashwaramma to her home where she gave me all the medicines, and told me their uses.

Boobamma, now works as a cleaner in a local school. That is what we are doing to our rich heritage of local medical systems.
