Yellow saree - Govindamma, our village midwife. Skilled in healthcare, and in every child ailment. Poorer than poor.
My guide for most illnesses our daughter had as an infant.
Grey saree - Chinapaapakka. Once for a late night village meeting at the temple, her village women
from the opposite hamlet came down late, argueing with each other.
She
sat next to me, gave a cherubic smile and said, 'They are all fighing
because of me'. She said she had delayed her cooking, and the whole delay was
because of her. 'But they are fighting with each other' - she informed
me cheerfully.
