    this very premise is why wehave lost so much and still losing...
    Jallikattu is a tamil word that is universal now! Stick to your guns and name it in Telugu...

      I will not translate. But may be a small embroidery of mountain or such like a logo if possible. Also may be one page explaining the initiative mailed as a part of the parcel. You can explain the meaning there.

      Hahah 😃 its just those names appeared million times on news, article, travel magazines and so on "Venkatasubramaniam" croossed centuries... it had the marketing reach. Anyname would have the reach if we could spend money 😕 so i am looking for cheapest and best way "Word of mouth"

      Yes, Paalagutta would be apt. It has a unique feel to it and sounds generic too. Like Tirunelveli alva or Manaparai murukku. That way anybody from the village can sell these bags anywhere, no? Why create a brand that the entire village cannot own?
      If you want to add a jazzy touch, you can add a caption, the Real Bio Bag or something 🙂

      Nice. 'PaalaGutte' is the brand and under that you have various produce. Bags , pickles , and so on... but keep PaalaGutte and narrate the story. that will have a personal touch rather than generic names.

    And so on.
    1. Retains the basic name of the village (and the bag can contain a tag with the full name and its meaning).
    2. It's very simple to call out and remember.
    3. Very distinctive - important for good branding.

      One more syllable, so slightly more complex to utter and remember.
      I thought keeping it very simple was better. Retain the character (of the village name) but keep it simple enough to just trip off the tongue.
      Gut also sounds like good, subconsciously.
      Try saying it out aloud.

      I prefer it.
      Ask your friends, the workers.
      Also your buyers.

    PaalaGutta sounds fine. I am just reminded of the Naxalbari village in Bengal and how everybody identified the Maoist movent as Naxal. Just speaking linguistically. This is not the space debate on the movement,😀.

    Totally different take. How about a brand name like Swaraj? With tag lines of The Village Bag or The Village Pickle and so on. Let it not be just a branding exercise. Let's design a name for revolution - Then these bags are like a badge of honour and a fierce revolutionary statement and action.

      Reminds me of my ex-boss whose US colleague said, I can't pronounce your name. He ensured that the colleague pronounces "Parthasarathy" correctly.
      Don't let go of your brand just cos some lazy person can't take the effort to pronounce it.

    It has been a fascinating collective trip, this post, the search for a name. For the village bags. From Paalaguttapalle. The varied suggestions, the myriad perspectives we have walked through. Together.
    From the local to the global.
    We never hoped for this level of engagement. The day Arun, Lavanya and Vignesh came home and we wondered what name could be best for the womens bags. Arun suggested, "Post and ask for suggestions."
    I posted.
    Many have advised going local, staying rooted, having a name that makes sense to the actual owners of the bags and of the name. We ourselves veer towards Roots.
    Paalaguttapalle seemed long, but as a friend said, people do know Banganapalle mangoes !
    Hima, from his Jallikattu voyage, was categorical, "Stay local in name, when talking of the Local. Give a Telugu name. Stick to your guns."

     and myself was remarkable in its tenor. Where everyone started with different positions, and the way the discussions proceeded with each looking at other points of view, and reaching a happy consensus.
    And as Arun rounded it " I am for Paalaguttapalle .They way i see we always surrender to our sentiment and nothing wrong in it 😄
    if branding is the challenge, then lets deal that as challenge. Lets brand only PaalaGuttaPalle.
    Roots pulls us to the roots."
    Thanks to everyone who shared this trip that is really Anita's, Rani's, Annapurna's, Varalu's, Buji's, Roopa's and Lakshmikantha's. They all like the name. It belongs to them.
