Charity needs sacrifice

Only that giving which comes with a sacrifice, brings with it the power to change. So Eashwaramma's and Chinapapakka's giving - which means shareing with the mendicant out of their last stock of rice - is the dharmam which will bring rains.

So Vinoba asked for 1/6 of land, saying that the landowner should consider the poor as his 6th son, after his own five sons, and give a share. Nothing less was asked for or accepted.

... Gandhi knew the power of the single coin given to him by the poor woman as her donation ... and he asked Birla to account for that coin very carefully.
