Long long ago, when we were the
'youth', and searching for meaningful ways to involve in society, one friend
Abey came up with the idea of a 'support network'. Some of us had quit our
jobs. His idea was that those who were for various reasons still in their jobs
should each pay for the expenses of one such 'activist'. And it would be a
sustainable circle ...
Another friend Sandeep strongly opposed it. He said that the fire that burned within should not get dampened by small involvement like some monthly contributions ... Left alone, the fire would rise till it consumed one ... and then the real involvements would happen, which would need tapas/ sacrifice...
We all met at the Narmada struggle, though we knew each other earlier also ... the Narmada gave a perspective of the unacceptable costs of development, of the vastness of sacrifices asked for from the assetless ... it gave a perspective of continous, unforgiving hard work and sacrifice as of Medha and many others ... it gave a moral compass ...
