Sasi tell me, "In a city people wear all these things. Will people wear these in a village (pallitoor) ?"
At one stroke dismissing the city fashions as silly, and the village mores are the superior. This is Sasi, all of ten years, Dalit, orphaned, very poor ... The older village women who come to the village also have an identical opinion, and are in splits back in the village as they regale each other other the way the 'city people dress'
They are in no awe of our 'riches' or 'modernity'.
