FB Discussions - The bane of English

It needs intelligence to see our foolishness.

English medium education teaches our kids to sing "Rain Rain go away". Isn't India a water deprived country? #promotelinguisticequality
ஆங்கில வழி கல்வி நமது குழந்தைகளுக்கு "மழையை போக" சொல்லி கொடுக்கிறது. இந்தியா நீருக்காக ஏங்கும் நாடுதானே? #தமிழ்வெல்க

Swarna Latha quite a few of the popular nursery rhymes are absurd. perhaps we could try out translations / transliterations of kids' verses in regional languages
Gyan Mitra Its a poem from London. All primary education is best done in mother tongue, then culture is automatically conveyed. English and foreign languages are easily learned as second language later.

Komakkambedu Himakiran Anugula Swarna Latha: My post was to highlight the absurdity of English medium education, not just the content. Kids must be taught in own languages, the languages that are alive in their environment and families, society as such. That's how the full potential of the child's mind can be realized.
English medium education has only produced number crunchers, code copiers & PPT warriors.

Aparna Krishnan And arrogance, and rootlessness ...

Swarna Latha :) yes, i understand, appreciate and support your view, KHA, and also somewhat regret that my 2nd language was हिन्दी (and DON'T regret that 3rd language was संस्कृतं). And due to circumstances, had to learn മലയാളം and a little bit of ಕನ್ನಡ too.
And that's why i shared my above thought.
Let me elaborate - நிலா நிலா ஓடி வா... and மாம்பழமா மாம்பழம்... / का त्वं बाले काञ्चनमाला... / കാക്കേ കാക്കേ കൂടെവിടെ ... etc and their transliterated versions in Indian languages could replace all those English rhymes. Unfortunately or fortunately i am still part of the defence community, and therefore tend to think lots more as an Indian, with my தமிழ் identity as intact as i can manage.

Komakkambedu Himakiran Anugula Indian identity is actually common to all people of the sub-continent and has nothing to do with the Republic of India which is actually a Union of States. There can be no Union without the States.

Shyamala Sanyal I think Indian children still learn the season's as spring, summer, Autumn winter

దామోదర రెడ్డి and telugu kids sing ' vaanaa vaanaa vallappa, vaagulu cheruvulu ninDappaa ' ( వానా వానా వల్లప్పా, వాగులు, చెరువులు నిండప్పా) , song everytime rain falls, and play that game... calling rain their sister/brother , and being asking it for filling all lakes, and vaagus(small rivers)..
